Every now and then I like to stop my daily routine for a second, take a step back, and, instead of taking the beauty of life for granted, actually acknowledging all these little events intertwining. Taking a moment to try to make sense of them and recognize them for the blessings they are. If you don't like the "religious" connotation that implies, then let's just call them gifts from Life. Anyway, the point is I feel lucky and grateful for all those little details that are shaping my life.
When I arrived to World Dance Movement in Italy this year, I had just started working on Motionated. That triggered another of those moments. It just struck me; I know so many people. This life of passion that I chose for myself has introduced me to so many incredible people I barely believe it myself sometimes. And yet, here they are, always comforting me with their warm hearts and inspiring me with their beautiful spirits. Motivating me to move through life being the best person I can be.
I could spend a whole other lifetime solely on introducing all the my friends and acquaintances to each other. Thankfully with the internet and this new site there is another way to accomplish the same goal and have just as much fun. I'm going to interview people, and share it. I have a treasure trove of special people who are worth knowing and sharing.
So here we go!
If you're going to interview special people, then you have to start right at the top right? I met this person almost ten years ago. Coincidence or not, it happened in Italy. Dance icon Desmond Richardson was teaching a workshop in Tropea that I used to attend, and acted as a translator for the mostly American teachers. Desmond has been a great inspiration for me ever since, and, without a doubt, for a whole generation of dancers and artists around the globe.
Crossing paths here one more time is just one of those little details I decided to not ignore but instead celebrate. I mean what a great way to start off a series of interviews right? It just seemed obvious. So without further ado... (drum roll)... Desmond Richardson!
Thank you Desmond for taking the time to sit with me!
